This “weight” is often in our mind – our mind is an amazing tool, yet we all too often use it like an overstuffed filing cabinet.
When your mind is full – of worries, of thoughts of what you didn’t do and tasks still to do, of what needs doing today and next month, of personal life issues and business stresses – it can make it difficult to think clearly. And it’s likely your ability to make good effective decisions is diminished, you may feel overwhelmed and also being unproductive.
Imagine that each of these thoughts in your brain is like a brick. To clear space in your mind – we need to lay down the bricks. We do this by doing a “brick dump”
Some of these ‘bricks’ are the least important – but can take up a disproportional amount of brain space – like remembering to pick up some milk on the way home. Another big pile of bricks can be things that we don’t or can’t control. We may not even be aware of how often we think about them.
If we can become consciously aware of what is taking up brain space, the opportunity is to do something about things we have control and influence over.
Take 2 minutes to WRITE DOWN ALL YOUR BRICK in your mind.
When you write down the most pressing things on your mind in your personal life and professional life – emptying your mind onto a piece of paper, you may be surprised at how free you feel.
How many of your personal bricks are impacting on your business life and vice versa?
Which bricks are the most important? Which bricks are taking up large amounts of brain space, and could be quickly actioned or resolved –freeing up precious brain capacity?
What things really matter? What decisions need to be made?
Brick dumping can be used daily or weekly, or whenever you recognise the ‘weight’ of bricks distracting you from making great decisions.
